The arrival of Buzz Williams as the new head coach of the Maryland Terrapins is confirmed for the next NCAAB season, and now the star player from the Texas A&M Aggies is leaving the program through the Transfer Portal.
Williams, who just completed his sixth season at Texas A&M, has led the Aggies to three straight NCAA Tournaments.
Maryland is hiring Texas A&M coach Buzz Williams to succeed Kevin Willard, the school announced Tuesday. The Aggies coach will take over a program without a sitting athletic director after Maryland AD Damon Evans left for the same job at SMU last month.
Buzz Wiliams has had a relatively successful six-season tenure at Texas A&M. Williams has led the Aggies to three straight NCAA Tournaments and took them to back-to-back SEC Tournament finals in 2022 and 2023. However, fans remain divided on Williams’ future in College Station, as some believe he may have reached his ceiling with the Aggies.
Despite overtures from Texas A&M athletic department and online fans, former Texas coach Chris Beard has rejected the Aggies, will stay at Ole Miss.
