Microsoft, currently the world's most valuable tech company, is slashing thousands of workers from its ranks. And even though the tech titan is a rare one headquartered outside the Bay Area, some local jobs are still on the chopping block.

Microsoft Corp.’s recently announced job cuts fell hardest on the people who build the company’s products, showing that even software developers are at risk in the age of artificial intelligence.

Nearly 3 percent of all Microsoft employees, about 6,000 people, are receiving layoff notices, reported several tech and financial news outlets including CNBC and GeekWire. The layoffs are affecting a range of levels and teams across the United States, GeekWire reported.
