The Devils and Flyers complete a home-and-home series that the Flyers began with a 4-2 win Monday. New Jersey center Jack Hughes (United States) and Philadelphia forward Travis Konecny (Canada), who will each play at the 4 Nations Face-Off from Feb.
NEWARK, N.J. – When Travis Konecny had an “A” for alternate captain sewn on his jersey last season, it was for good reason. But years before this, his teammates probably would have opted for an “L” because he had already evolved into a leader. The Flyers veteran right wing has elevated his game to a new, higher level this season.
Konecny is the Flyers’ most dangerous and consistent offensive player and his intense disposition and passion have been impossible to miss.
There will be another player representing the Flyers at the 4 Nations Face-Off next month. Samuel Ersson was added to Team Sweden’s roster Wednesday. The Flyers’ goaltender is replacing Devils netminder Jacob Markstrom,
Konecny has been on a steady rise. He has led the Flyers in scoring each of the last three seasons and four of the past five. An All-Star last February, he finished the 2023-24 season with a career high in goals (33) and points (68), and he’s on pace to shatter his best numbers with 35 goals, 59 assists and 94 points this year.
He’s the scrappy, fearless winger whose combination of grit and skill has endeared him to fans in orange and black. But despite being the Flyers' undisputed star, Konecny has long toiled in the shadows of broader NHL stardom.

Konecny picked up two assists, one on the power play, in Monday's 4-2 win over the Devils.
The Philadelphia Flyers haven't had great success with first-round draft picks, but Travis Konecny was the Great Steal of 2015 and should've been a quarter-century player.
This is the second of a home-and-home series. Philly won its home game on Monday, 4-2, over New Jersey, which will host the Wednesday matchup.
The NHL announced today that Flyers goaltender Samuel Ersson has been added to Team Sweden’s roster ahead of the 2025 Four Nations Faceoff.
The Philadelphia Flyers opened a home-and-home set against the New Jersey Devils with a 4-2 win at Wells Fargo Center on Monday evening.
