The Texas health department reported 717 cases of measles in the state on Tuesday, an increase of eight cases since its last update, as the U.S. battles one of the worst outbreaks of the childhood disease in the country.

Katherine Wells, the public health director in Lubbock, Texas, describes her fight to stop the largest measles outbreak since 2000, despite a chaotic reorganization of federal health agencies.

Since the measles outbreak began in West Texas, 87 people in Texas have been hospitalized, and two school-aged children have died.
